Did you try putting the crate next to your bed and put a piece of your clothing in it? My puppy cried for about 2 weeks but whenever he did, because he was near the bed I would reach over and say very softly "settle" and he would go back to sleep. Boodles is now 8 months old and I can say "settle" and he will stop whatever he's doing and relax and sleep.
Hang in there - it's worth it!
