I have to say I was not too-in-favour of the Harry Potter books - until I actually read one! Then the next, and the next, and the next - and then started again at the beginning. I think they are good for children in that they actually persuade the children to read, but they are also quite clever, in the ideas, and the use of Latin for some of the names, and spells etc. For a modern author, the grammar is good, and the syntax perfect - not to be sneezed at in a modern children's book! I received my new copy this morning, and decided to get on with the houseworek very quickly indeed - and only the minimum was going to be done - so that I could spend the afternoon reading! I have to say, I don't think I would have queued for eight minutes, let alone eight hours - our copies were delivered to the doo, at about 8.00 am, via Tesco and Amazon - which was far less taxing than waiting in a long queue!
I'll let you all know tomorrow what I think of the latest offering! Carol - in a hot and sunny East Anglia, UK, where the reading will be done outside, in the lounger and/or the hammock! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jean Nathan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Chat" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, June 21, 2003 9:32 AM Subject: [lace-chat] Harry Potter To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED]
