We used to call those white plimsoles "daps" at home in Wales - does anyone else remember them being called that, or was that a *very* local word? I have to say, I still sometimes call them daps, especially when taking the grandchildren for their summer 'jelly' shoes, and the 'daps' for running about in! They have their proper school sandals, but they are allowed the canvas shoes for the beach.
