Aaahh!! That "you must shut down properly, you naughty girl" message is very
well-known to me!!!

My laptop has a green light at the front which is supposed to come on when the
computer does, and go off when its switched off. I say "supposed" because for
months, when I shut down the computer, the green light would go off, but come
on again when the computer finally went to sleep. When I woke it up next
morning, off the green light would go until the computer was finally wound up
and working.

However, for no reason at all, suddenly, yesterday, the green "On" light
started going off when the computer went off!! I haven't asked it why, after
all this time, its started working properly....it probably doesn't know
itself!!!

This morning my computer wouldn't shut down. Asked if I wanted to 'End
task' - yes. Still didn't shut down. Asked again - yes. Still didn't shut
down. By this time the bits that would shut the computer down had been ended
with 'End task'. So I did a reboot. It started scanning the disk for errors,
while telling me that I hadn't shut down properly, and in order to avoid
having to scan the disk, please remember to go through the correct shut down
sequence in future. GRRR.
