Ah yes, those first paychecks - when I first went to Papua New Guinea (single, to work in a construction office), the pay was high and all accommodation expenses were met by the company. The money was mine, all mine! I bought a pure silk sleeveless blouse in pale pink, button down the back, and the front all pintucks. Exquisite. Wore it until it literally fell to bits. Cost a full week's pay, and worth every penny for the Wow factor. Earlier than that, when I first started working in Sydney, it was a red wool dress, body hugging to the hips, with a gored, flared skirt which was perfect for "The Twist". Now, that dates me!
