I don't know whether you could *ever* buy oxblood. I polished them with
brown stain polish -- which didn't change the color until they got so worn
that I had to use Scuff-Coat.
it wasn't real blood from oxen, just the name given to a dark red/burgundy colour shoe polish, and certainly you could get it in the 50s and 60s.
