UK DVDs are region 2 (same as Europe and Israel) while US DVDs are region 1. Unless you are sure that the recipient owns a multiregion system, it's safest to get the DVD in the appropriate region. You can order US DVDs from Amazon.com if you're in the UK. I either order my region 2 DVDs from Amazon.co.uk or I do a search on eBay for DVDs that are located in the UK.
