Dear Patricia,
I finally succumbed and bought a DVD player recently. It's separate from my video, but was recommended as a great deal as it has DVD, CD (including jpeg function) and AM/FM radio functions with 6 speakers. It is made by Telefunken and I got it for $100 off at AUS$295. Now how many UK pounds is that????? - about 100 I think.
So far - after spending about a month connecting all the surround sound stuff - the only thing I still have to sort out is that when I tape the TV on video, it plays back in B & W. But I know it's recorded in colour as I tried it on the neighbour's machine.
Hope that is of some use

My video recorder is on its last legs and I'm thinking about a replacement.
Can anyone advise if a combined videao recorder and DVD player is a good idea?
I ask because a combined washer/drier doesn't last as long as separate
machines and I wondered if the same might apply to recorders. Whatever I buy will
be at the lower end of the price range, whether it be the combined machine or
two separate ones.

Another question. Are the DVD systems in Britain and the US compatable? i'd
like to be ablt to send British DVDs to America as presents.
