Hi All, I think George Bush wants to rebuild New Orleans "whatever the
cost" but the Congress and Senate from both parties don't seem so sure.
And, as written here already, the US taxpayers are the ones to pay for it
one way or another.

DH and I have to get flood insurance from FEMA every year. And it
infuriates me every year! It's $500.USD a year now (yes, I know some of you
would save that up all year long but I don't and it's always a struggle to
come up with). The last time it went up was when there was terrible
flooding in the Midwest. We do not think the brook near our house will
flood the way "they" say it will. The map shows the "100 year flood" and
the "500 year flood". Our house is over 100 years old but this is a
mythical 100 year they're talking about. The town has been here 250 years
now and I don't think this area has ever flooded.

We have to have flood insurance because we have a mortgage with a bank. So
I asked about getting insurance for the amount of the mortgage but you have
to get insurance for at least 80% of the assessed value of your home -
that's a lot more than the mortgage at this point. I believe the reasoning
is you're not going to get the full amount you've paid for so this might
cover the amount of the mortgage. That sounds like a racket (scam) to me!
I read something about FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Administration)
giving out $26,000.USD per something - home? maybe. That sure wouldn't
cover much.

So I have to call the National Flood Insurance Program and find out more -
like who's computer program are they using to predict this mythical flood
and is it a valid program. We could hire a surveyor to find out exactly how
high we are but that costs money too. Also I will ask if they do re-survey
whenever work is done on the brook. They recently added more people
upstream to the rolls. I'm sure people on my street who have paid off their
mortgages don't have flood insurance anymore. Anyway, I will try to be a
little annoyance to the mighty Federal govenment when they have caught their
breath after this disaster. I just really don't like throwing away $500.!
Well, it will go to good use in the Gulf Coast but I'd rather choose to
donate than be forced to donate.

made her way up the east coast.
