To you who answer all questions:

I just got the word that the daughter and her friend from England are coming to visit California in April. I feel sure that they'll need a converter to charge their camcorder, camera, etc. rather than just a plug adapter. I would imagine that the difference in voltage (UK-230V vs. USA-120V) would demand a converter. Will the "converter kits" one can buy at local stores work for their intended use, or would it be just as well to use batteries during their 12 day trip?

When we lived in the Motherland, we used transformers to power any American appliances we moved there with and when we visit back to England, I simply pack my English hair dryer, or use my friend's. I have one of those inexpensive "converter kits" but have never used it. Have loaned it, though.
