I had little problem on my OIDFA trip while using a debit card to an account set up just for traveling. A couple machines refused my card but I just went to another machine and it worked fine. This is the travel money method recommended by USA travel books to Europe.
One problem some people have is that their PIN number is a word. USA machines used to have letters as well as numbers on the keys, and if a person didn't learn the number version of their word, they couldn't use the number only keypads in Europe. I had a credit card with me in case I needed it, but didn't have to use it. Some hotels say they won't take a debit card, but when I got there, they accepted the debit card just fine. Has this been a problem? I'm particularly thinking of those from the USA who attended OIDFA.
