it is just a form of embroidery, but it imitates lace type designs as patterns. it uses different grounds and is usually done in red, green, blue, or black. i think i have seen many pieces using more than one color, but mostly the patterns call for just one. the patterns are simle line drawings that you embroider around and fill in with different ground stitches . it looks really simple to do, but i am sure it is time consuming. there should be a lot of examples of blackwork pieces and patterns in these website. i hope that helps! the most famous person who wore these types of lace embroidery was queen elizabeth the first, and you can see that by some of her portraits.
please let me know if that helps!! from susan in tennessee,u.s.a. Alessandra <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: could you please explain me what is blackwork? thank you alessandra Italy - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED]
