While the list is quiet, the "ivory" bobbin shank I mentioned in an earlier email reminded me of an item on a TV antiques programme the other day which was relevant to our recent discussion on describing bone/ivory bobbins in the USA. The expert was looking at a bronze statuette which had the head, shoulders and arms made of ivory. He said that if the owner wanted to sell it to someone in the USA she would have to get the necessary import/export licenses as all ivory imported into the USA had to have these documents since the restrictions on ivory came into effect a few years ago.
