Dear Sue, I don't have the book, so I can't check, but I might be able to help anyway.
Whilst, to a lot of us, Linen Stitch and Whole Stitch are the same, in some lacemaking areas, Whole Stitch is exactly *double* a Half Stitch. So, a Half Stitch is worked: Cross, Twist Whole Stitch is double that: Cross, Twist, Cross, Twist (or, as a lot of us call it, Whole Stitch and Twist) Linen Stitch is: Cross, Twist, Cross Hope this helps!!
