Dear Lacemakers, On the cover of the special issue devoted to lace published by "PieceWork" dated January/February 2001 is an ecru Romanian Point lace butterfly, which called for DMC Cebelia, size 20.
My friend, Ilona, made this butterfly for me in varigated blue threads. I do not know the specific threads she used (she has a large supply of threads collected over many years), but I do know the butterfly is exactly the size of the picture on the "PieceWork" cover. It was the "identifying blue butterfly" I sewed to my hat and wore the first two days of the IOLI Convention in August. This was to enable Arachne members who had come from overseas to identify me. One, who traveled from the U.K. and had other transport arranged from Newark Airport to the hotel - actually noticed me in the airport and sat in the waiting area with me for quite a while. Another lacemaker, from Germany, immediately "pounced" on me in the hotel lobby. So, some of you have seen the effect of varigated threads used in Romanian Point lace on that hat. I'll try to remember, the next time I see Lori, to have her photograph the blue butterfly and put it on her lacefairy website. When I looked at the website for "PieceWork" last week, I noticed it is possible to order back issues. If you should happen to order this issue, it would be nice to mention how happy you are to see the IOLI advertisement in their current issue. http://www.interweave.com Jeri Ames in Maine USA Lace & Embroidery Resource Center - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
