I've never tried embroidery floss, but two years ago I was fortunate
enough to discover a great display of (Indian I think) "Sifonda" silk
(not art silk, real silk) at a craft centre called Mandini, near Merimbula
on the NSW south coast. It comes in 6 strand skeins like floss,
and in every bright and vivid colour imaginable, and was only about
$1.20 Aust. a hank! I bought up a stack of it, and have found it a joy
to use. It worked out about halfway between Madeira Tanne 50 and
Tanne 80 - did a lovely Bucks pincushion edge with it in deep
purple, and a couple of multicolour bookmarks using several different
colours and just letting them go where they went (because of half
stitch blocks). And some single colour motifs.

Apart from being a bit tedious to unravel and wind up, it wasn't too
difficult, as being silk, it just slid apart when pulled. Had to make
sure the cat was asleep first, though. She loved those dangling bunches.

Brenda, (or anyone), have you ever come across this brand?

And if anyone is going to Eden for the lace retreat in May, I can
recommend a side trip to Mandini. (but it's closed Saturday afternoon
and Sundays, worse luck). It's a large craft cottage at the
back of a holiday resort buried deep in the coastal bush, and the
bellbirds are deafening as you drive in.

Michelle, OK, we don't know where Suriname is, but where
is Paramaribo?

Noelene in Cooma, with Autumn rapidly colouring all our
deciduous trees. And we've actually had a bit of rain!
