Thanks everyone - "posters" and private advisers both. The consensus seems to be that it's OK to put lace directly on knit fabric without stabilising the area to which it'll be titched first. Most of the knit shirts which come pre-embroidered, seem to have interfacing on the wrong side of the fabric, to make it more like woven fabric first. That's why I was uncertain.

Thanks again to everyone and apologies for the wholesale job, but I'm getting somewhat pressed for time, now that my departure is less than a week away.
