With all this talk about judging shows and fairs, I think its appropriate to
tell you all this news:

Liz Ligeti, from Melbourne, Australia, won First Prize in the Needlelace
Section of the Colorado State Fair, together with the Dorothy Names Memorial
Rosette, and the award for State Fair Best in Show.

She also won First Prize for her Torchon lace piece - which was a nice feat,
involving as it did, fooling one of the two judges at the Fair, Helen Bell, her
daughter. Liz went to some lengths to disguise her work - in addition to
making a Torchon piece (she usually does Needlelace and Beds.), she mounted the
piece using a different method to her usual one, just to confuse Helen.

Apparently when the judging was over, Helen was anxious to know who'd made the
Torchcon piece, but couldn't believe it when she was told her Mother - "but Mum
doesn't make Torchon" was her incredulous response!!
