I would hope not. We'd be talking not only of the brag-pieces of *Arachneans*, but also of all those - often huge in number of photos - websites, which are put up, post-event (lace day, convention, whatever) by non-Arachneans, and which Arachneans discover and forward the URLs of to us... We'd all be poorer if the photos on those sites were limited to the town/guild officials making speeches, with no lace content at all, except by permission of some distant (and, posssibly, extinct) designer...
I am sure there are people who have seen
websites with completed pieces displayed who have then gone out and bought
the book in order to create the design themselves. i.e I, having looked at
all the Milanese lace I went out and bought a Milanese book.
I wouldn't be surprised to hear that some people, having seen those websites, decided to have a try at lacemaking, and kept looking around, until they found someone to help them get hooked-up (and "hooked" <g>)... And those people would have then - most certainly - been directed to a *lot* of books :)

I can't help but wonder... Isn't there a difference between a website created mainly for commercial purposes, and one one - like what Jane's thinking of - which is a "brag" one?
Or, perhaps the answer is in "publishing" only low-resolution, fuzzy and indistinct photos (the better to hide the mistakes <g>), so that not only nobody could reproduce anything from the photo, but the designerr of the piece would never recognize it? :)
No skin off my nose, really, since every photo on my brag-site (URL in the signature) is a photo taken by me (I have *no problem* with taking fuzzy photos <g>), of lace made by me, and designed by me, but, like Jane, I'd hate for other lacemakers to start thinking "not worth the trouble; better to duck", and never get to see other people's work in return...
Oh, and BTW... If anyone wants to make a piece from a pattern of mine and then display the results on a brag-site, you're more than welcome. Even though some of those patterns I'm no longer proud of :)
