I agree with the previous postings. I started with Belgian bobbins and
switched to Midlands with the spangles. I loved the way you could fllip
the Continental bobbins around, but I hated the way they rolled.
However, when I started making 1/12th scale lace (for my miniature lace
shop), the threads kept breaking when I used bobbins with spangles. So
I bought a lot of Honiton bobbins, even though I was making Torchon,
Bucks, and Beds. When I learnt Honiton, I had all the bobbins and I
must admit that doing the sewings were easier without spangles.
However, when I learnt Milanese, I used the spangled bobbins and had no
problems. So I would say, use your spangled bobbins, unless you are
using very thin thread, 120+, and the h*** with tradition!
