I made a garter in torchon but wasn't very happy with the finished product, couldn't get the ribbon and the elastic to sit well in the resting position in the box. My teacher told me she had done hers using two different strips sewn toa central ribbon and then elastic up the centre. I have done one strip of bucks point lace like this and have the second one to begin very soon and am hoping for better results this time. 2 yards of unusable lace in a circle would be useless if this doesn't work well.

I work my lace while watching the tv during the evenings and it normally takes about 3 weeks to get to the end of that amount of lace. (At the moment the cat keeps demanding my lap, so am working slower) I always begin well in advance of time as I don't like to feel pressured.
Well I have a pile of dishes that want washing, so I had better go.

Hi everyone
Is anyone working on a long lace right now? I'm looking for company.
I'm not making a very long lace at all, only 1 metre, for a garter,
but my it seems slow going. Centimetre by centimetre. It is a Torchon
pattern, with beading (that is, holes for ribbon) down the middle,
rather than a footside, so each side is the same, worked to the centre
and criss-cross a few pairs for the beading. It wouldn't be my choice
for recreational lace; the pattern was chosen for a niece's wedding.
I'm now at 22 centimetres.
I have a small pin stuck in at the 30 cm. mark which looks a very long way away!
I'll go now, and work another couple of cm.
