Hi Everyone Reading Christopher Paolini's book "Eldest" (2nd volume of Eragon), I found a nice passage about lace. I quote:
Intending to cut open a seam, she extendet her harm and snagged the tip of her knife on a fringe of bobbin lice, slicing it in half....................... The bobbin lace was the most valuable part of the dress. Even tough lace required skill to make its rarity and expense were mainly due to its central ingredient: vast, copious, mindnumbing, and deadening amounts of time. It took so long to produce that if you attempted to create a lace veil by yourself, your progress would be measured not in weeks but in month. Ounce for ounce. lace was worth more than gold or silver. She ran her fingers over the band of threads, pausing on the rift that she had created. It,s not as if lace takes that much energy, just time. She hated making it herself. Energy... energy... I think that this quite young writer grasped very well what the making of lace is, even if he dont mention that some people actually love to make lace. Lace is mentioned a few more times but only as merchandise. My lace.making is in a corner, as I had surgery on my right shoulder a few month ago. Just before Christmas I fell somewhere and have now a rupture of a ligament on the same shoulder, making lace is too painfull and I am afraid will have to wait for a few more month.
