Hi Sue,

I've made lots of garters and always work on 27 inches as a good length,
working to the nearest pattern repeat. I've done one sided and two sided
garters, depending on the amount of time available, but concentrated on one
sided since I heard that two sided were "tarts' garters"! The garter can be
worn any where from just above the knee to the top of the leg, but if the
bride is going to expose it for the photographs, just above the knee is
best.

PS It is not the custom here in UK to throw the garter to the groomsmen.

Subject: [lace] bucks garter lace

I have been working my bucks point garter strip of lace (Wedding Bells, in
Stott and Cook 100 traditional patts). I have done about 25 inches and am
wondering what others who have made bucks point garters would consider a
sensible length. I was thinking 30 inches and using ribbon approx 1 inch on
one edge and not in the centre.
