Good Evening All,
I have been reading this with interest, and concern too, but also
remembering the very first Lace Day I ever attended.
Going on thirty years ago, I was a very new lace-maker, and due to attend
the Essex Lace Makers Lace Day in Chelmsford (UK) with a friend who, at the
last minute, pulled out. I had my lunch packed, bobbins wound and pillow
ready, but was also unsure whether to go - I didn't know anyone at all who
would be there. However, as the childcare arrangements had beene made, I
decided to toddle off. And how glad I am that I did! I sat with some
ladies from Brandon in Suffolk, and they were so helpful and considerate -
we have stayed friends but, unfortunately, I haven't seen them for some time
as the driver had cataracts.
So - after that, I decided that, if I saw anyone who looked as lost and
lonely as I felt that first few minutes at the Lace Day, I would try hard to
be as friendly as those ladies were to me!
Carol - in Suffolk UK
