Thank you to everyone who replied, both on-list and privately to my
request for opinions about accepting PayPal. Your views are quite
mixed, some are all in favour whilst others wouldn't touch it with a
bargepole! Personally I don't feel comfortable about PayPal and have
decided not to accept it. If I were a bigger trader I'd be looking at
Visa.
What I have realised though, is that getting a GBP cheque from a
foreign country costs about as much as a single threads book, so
unrealistically expensive for individual purchases, but for a trader
who can share that cost between 10 or 20 customers it's not so bad.
Since overseas postage costs are much the same for ten single books as
for one parcel of ten books, it makes economic sense for anyone not in
UK to purchase from a trader in their own country if possible, or
otherwise to buy from one of the UK traders who take Visa, Mastercard,
Amex or PayPal. I will still accept
I am going to update the list of stockists (assuming that those who
took Ed3 will take Ed4!) on my website to try to indicate which payment
methods they accept.
