I'm no expert in the various company take-overs and brand label
changes, but I'm fairly sure that all the Sylkos are essentially the
same - except for the size. Tootal Sylko and Amann Sylko are more
recent brands.

I *think* Tootle Sylko is only 5-10 years ago.
Sylko is 3 ply, so 'rounder' thread than Tanne which is 2 ply.
2 ply thread flatten more and spread out to fill a bigger space - ideal
for satin stitch machine embroidery, which Tanne is made for. In BL a
two ply is best suited to laces with a lot of twists (point ground) as
the threads intermesh better and make a softer, more draping lace. 3
ply is firmer, stronger for sewing seams and makes a crisper lace.
