Dona You need to know your lace before purchasing in Burano. Most of the lace for sale in the shops is imported lace from China or wherever. You need to look deep inside the best shops to find the real thing and be prepared to pay the fair price that they will charge.
The cheaper laces are mostly machine or hand embroidered tape lace. If you go to the museum first you will see the real thing and the lace makers at work so then you will know what you are looking for. Does anyone have specific information on "must-see" places? Shops that are recommended? Museums? I know that Burano lace is a needle lace (which I know nothing about) I hope to pick up a few pieces while there. Is there anything specific I should look for in a piece of needlelace?
