I have tried and taught making leaves all the ways I have come across in 30 years and I have described the one that I have found to be the easiest and the one that gives the best results in my book 'All about making- Geometrical Bucks Point lace' p 97 and p 108-9. Although I show a particular way of supporting the bobins while tensioning it can be adapted as necessary for comfort and convenience. I hope this helps.
