I found an interesting article...it's actually 18 years old(!!!), but I just ran across it while looking up information on the Leavers machines used to make machine lace. I thought I had heard that lace made on this machine was very involved, although much less than handmade lace. Anyway, it seems that it is involved enough to discourage future machine lace makers in its production...

As I read the article and comments by the machine lacemakers, I thought how much it must have sounded like things being said as bobbin lacemakers realized their own cottage industry was becoming a thing of the "past".

Sad...
