I bought an inexpensive architects lamp and got a CFL daylight bulb (the curly kind) for it at Home Depot in the US. The bulb was a little more expensive, but it gives a great light and is much cooler than halogens. The cost for both was less than $10 US - Far less that the special daylight lamps.
