Replies to my little survey have stopped coming in so I've downloaded the results file and put it together as a webpage at
http://paternoster.orpheusweb.co.uk/lace/arachne/surveyresults.htm

There were a total of 192 replies, plus a few which I've deleted because they had no boxes ticked. I think that may have been because the button at the bottom of the page reads 'continue' when it actually submits the reply. If I do another survey I'll try to change it.

The totals don't all add up to 192; a few people chose not to answer one or more of the questions. I didn't make any of the answers compulsory as I dislike having to answer a question, especially if none of the options are exactly what I want to say.

So what do the results show?
Overall, the folk who chose to reply have a broad spread of lacemaking experience and knowledge. Nearly everyone makes torchon and most make more than one type of BL. More than half can draw a pattern.

The coloured lace question was badly worded, but there appears to be a spread of preferences from white only through to using many colours.

The question about other laces and textiles crafts was more or less what I'd expected; most of us do some other textiles activities, but Arachne isn't the place to ask about millinery or batik! I also got the impression that some of the less experienced lacemakers (less than 5 years) used to do other things but have dropped them all in favour of lacemaking.

The non textiles crafts question was similar, though from the individual answers I was a bit surprised at how many people said that they don't do any non-lace crafts. Perhaps I suggested the wrong crafts. Bead work has more followers than the other crafts - I wonder if that was from people who play with beads whilst spangling their bobbins?

If there's a positive response to this survey I'll do another, but please tell me which questions you would like asked. About collecting lace? bobbins? books? How you first learned BL? Why you wanted to learn BL? what do you use your lace for? anything else?
