This is such a hard question at this time. I am coming up on my first
anniversary of learning bobbin lace. I did put in many hours with tatting
but it still was also less than a year of actual working.
With bobbin lace I love the oval I did for my lace class. Spider, Rose
Ground and Half Stitch Oval from The Technique of Bobbin Lace by Pamela
Nottingham. But part of what I loved was trying various rose grounds in some
of the preparatory pieces. I will probably never do this oval again but
almost everything I do in Torchon will be founded on what I learned with
this project. So obviously it is very dear to me.
With tatting most people that know me know that I have several favorite
designers but Mary Konior remains my greatest inspiration. Her Network and
Spinning Wheel (glass mat version) have been and remain my favorite pieces
to work up and look at. Though I dream of here Primrose Path, I have yet to
beyond a few test pieces.
But I must let you in on a little secret. There is a particular Medallion in
the Corticelli Lessons in Tatting that I worked up along with some of its
related motifs. I have spent more time dreaming of what I can do with this
pattern than I have actually spent making lace. I started working on
correcting some of the errors I see in the pattern. Actually I am convinced
that there were some design changes made between the pattern's conception
and it's execution. The picture does not match the pattern and I think I
know why it was changed, but these are just a guesses.
This pattern goes back to my earliest days involved with lace (May 2006) and
I have two very modern interpretations based on this motif that only wait my
actually finding time to get back to them.
Does anyone else have a pattern or two that is stuck in their mind and
continues to intrigue them for years. Unfortunately I realize that to do
what I want to do with this pattern will be a lot of work.
At this time I love the quiet that comes from bobbin lace. For some reason
tatting makes me think too much. In getting ready for a week long vacation I
have started a somewhat simple tatting project to take along, but I wish I
could fit my pillow in with the luggage.
I do like that one comment from Susan "Unfortunately my bobbin/needle
lacemaking has been delayed in the conquest for hard to find books..."
I understand the problem but I cannot use that excuse anymore. I think I
found most of them. Now I just need time and another pillow or two.
