My husband used a solder iron with a made up jig to support a wire which was
bare in the middle and when the solder iron switch is on and hot enough it
can slice through the polystyrene. He operated the solder iron and between
us we gently pushed the foam along the top of the bench and it just sliced
through. We had previous marked a line with a pencil.
That is how we cut the squares for my big pillow we made about 18 months
ago, or so.
I dont know if this will help you at all, but he did find instructions with
pictures on the internet somewhere at the time, probably asking google how
to cut polystyrene.

Either use a very sharp carving knife and try to do it in one cut, or
use an electric carving knife.
Although pool noodle styrofoam isn't as crumbly as expanded
polystyrene it can still make a mess, so work outside.

I am planning to use a covered 5 1/5" diameter pool noodle as a
needle lace
pillow. Any suggestions as to how to cut it's length to size?
