Thanks for this nice list, Janice!
Except for Mike Bester, I am not familiar with any of them! All the
more reason to set up a website! I have access to web space, and I will
be seeing someone tomorrow (I hope...) to discuss the feasibility of
setting up a website of my own, and if it's possible, I'd love to create
a catalog of modern bobbins, identifying makers from all over the
world! With Arachne as a resource, this would be a lot of fun!

Hello all
Some more South African bobbin makers are
Mike Bester - Western Cape
Harry Hughes - Johannesburg, much saught after fine midlands bobbins,
sadly now deceases.
Mary Hughes - Harry's wife painted beautiful bobbins and now at age 80
has macular degeneration and can no longer paint.
Paddy Waters - also over 80 and still paints the most exquisite bobbins.
Izak Cronje, Western Cape - wonderful midlands bobbins.
Beyers Cronje, Graaf Reinet - Izak's son is a teacher and makes very
fine midlands bobbins during holiday time.
Xavier Stanton, Western Cape, now deceased - midlands bobbins
Arthur Bolton, Fishhoek, Western Cape, now deceased - wonderful
midlands bobbins.
Mr Greyvenstein, Roodepoort - midlands bobbins
Sebbald Horne, retired, Johannesburg - fine midlands bobbins
Jean Horne. retired, Johannesburg - used to do pyrographed bobbins
Ron Fandam, Johannesburg - used to make midlands bobbins
Roland Wright, Natal - used to make ivory bobbins and wooden ones.
These are the ones that come immediately to mind. I may think of some
more tomorrow
