Am I right in guessing that in US English (as opposed to English
English) the word "fine" only means "good", and has no use for its
alternative English meaning, being the opposite of thick (relating to
size)? Coarse can mean "of uneven thickness", "rough", or "crude" - but
can also mean "sparse" (ie spaced further apart), which is the meaning I
put on the word.
My meaning was a thinner (finer), sparsely woven (coarser) cloth. Is
*that* clear?
