was appliqued
and left it at that. Now there might be an opportunity to build
on the
interest and get more people doing lace, which after all is what we
really
need."

At our Lace Day in June, Lacemakers and Collectors Exchange, we held a
beginner
class and several ladies signed up for it just because of the royal
wedding
dress. We had them working the simple torchon snake - at which at
least one was
disappointed that she couldn't make the 'fancy' lace like the
dress but after
getting halfway down the snake pattern, she was ready to give
up. Whether it was
too simple or just too mind-blowing working time involved
[3 hours], I'm not
sure. She did not finish and we haven't seen her since.
However, the interest
was there for the rest of the ladies and they all were
determined they could
conquer bobbin lacemaking. Altho we only got 2 to sign
on as members, the other
ladies were thrilled to have done the whole snake.
We can hope the others will
come back in the future to learn more of
lacemaking.
