Hi Lyn

Re: your message about fabric witht eh question - But how about the
handkerchief done in Egyptian cotton? For the interior
cloth, should that be cotton?

The answers posted are all useful but no one mentioned the reasoning behind
making the choice. When the fabric with the edging attached is used and washed
the threads in these two parts should ideally behave the same under all
conditions, otherwise there could be problems. i.e. both need to be washed at
the same temperature and require the same temperature when they are ironed.
Both should be able to stand the same stresses of wear and tear etc. If both
are made from the same fibres all the properties will be the same and it's
easy. Linen can be washed at a higher temperature than cotton and requires a
higher temperature for ironing. It also stands up to wear and tear better; a
linen hadkerchief edging will outlast 3 cotton centres. Providing you know
factors involved you can make a choice, and cotton and linen can be mixed, the
laundering dictated by the cotton which required lower temperatures than
linen.

Happy lacemking
