In giving away your lace magazines to another lacemaker you aren't breaking
anything surely? The Lace Guild has a 'swap/shop' section in 'Lace.'

I would say that giving away your magazines is the only thing you can do
that is not breaking the spirit of copyright since the law is so print and
paper oriented that this is permitted, whereas other forms of sharing are
not.

Interestingly, when I was part of the library focus group, we heard about
the problems afflicting libraries wanting to loan digital books both
because customers preferred them, and because they don't take up as much
space.
Publishers were comfortable with the print and paper method of keeping track
of copies being loaned by libraries, but loathe to provide digital copies
of books to libraries. According to the librarian, they had only recently
reached an agreement with a publisher by which, for the fee paid to the
publisher, the book could be loaned to only one person at a time and would
disappear from the borrower's reading device automatically after 30 days. But
the most fascinating part of this was that it had been decided that the
average library book is read 27 times before it is worn out and discarded. So
after 27 loans of the digital book, the library would have to pay another
fee to the publisher. The librarians were in a bit of a kerfluffle since they
said that it was frequently the case that books were not worn out after 27
borrowings because a lot of people borrowed books and didn't really read
them, or read them very gently, and they often pushed books past 27
borrowings.

It would seem to me that either method is rather arbitrary. Sometimes a
physical book can be worn out after 5 borrowings.
