I can't find the book it was in but according to one on fashion, laces used for bridal wear were only referred to by two names. Having had a look on the web it now seems that they're using three - Guipure, Chantilly and Alencon - all machine made and which may or may not have any resemblance to traditional hand-made laces of the same names.
It appears to be that Guipure means "robust" motifs joined together with brides rather than a net ground, Chantilly fairly fine with mesh ground and often with a border, Alencon a fine(ish) lace with all-over repeated outlined motifs.
