Arachne is a wonderful resource that I admit I do not use often enough. I really need to start posting questions here as I always put it off because I am not so timely writing responses.
I love the philosophy of sharing everything you learn, its important that it is passed down. I originally found the lace community very secretive, and talking to some people in my local guild was no help, they fixed my mistakes for me, without explaining how to do it. So many questions and answers on Arachne are wonderful! I need to stop lurking and do more talking. Facebook makes it easier to send photo's with your questions, that is why some people flock to it. It would be amazing if Arachne opened a closed Facebook group for members. Getting younger lacemakers is harder, and I am currently working on a Youtube learning series where I am going to teach what I learn as I learn it. Doing samples was all well and good, but I spent a year making samples when I should have dived in and made some actual lace. I am working on my first actual piece now, and i have 3 pricking in the line up afterwards. I am truly addicted! One question I have been meaning to ask is... when you use a block pillow, how big is the total pillow. I am working on one that is 18"x18" with 6" blocks. I need to make another that is larger, that includes some smaller blocks. Its hard for me to manage the bobbins on this pillow, as I really need to move the blocks up half a block at a time rather than a full block.
