Like Susie I use the car garages. I have five of them. One is for white cotton threads on one side and linen on the other side.  They hold lots of spools. Another is just for silk threads, different makes on each side. One for metallic and specialty threads. One for colored cotton threads and the last one holds a mixture of sewing threads.  I also have two large square wicker baskets that sit on the bottom ledge of my bookcase that hold other threads that won't fit into those boxes and my boxes of pins, the second holds my bobbins.  I love being able to see the colored threads like a pallet for my art.  I haven't seen the boxes lately in the stores though.
