Interesting, the replies re my question. I am finishing off the garter I
made last year, putting final touches to it according to the bride to be's
instructions. She has very definite ideas as to what she likes/dislikes
and bows/horse shoes/charms are big no-no's so I was half toying with the
idea of making a small dorset button as part of the finishing touches, but
given the answers i have received I would say she doesn't need a button,
since she has already 'caught' her husband (to-be). Back to the drawing
board then....

I don't know about buttons on actual pillows - but superstition is that
spinsters should have one, and preferably a shirt or flybutton, instead
of the bottom bead on a spangle, supposedly to help 'catch" a husband.
