Hi,

I also have a Thinkpad X40 laptop with all wireless features (wifi and
bluetooth). The Fn-F5 only turns on the bluetooth feature (that does not
working in Solaris yet, no bluetooth stack), but not the wireless card. The
wireless light activity only turns on when you are plumbing the wireless
interface (ipw0 is my wireless card), only in this case. When the interface is
turned off, the light dissapears.

You cannot enable/disable wireless card via Fn-F5 button in the laptop, tested
with SXDE 65 and SXCE b70.

You should use dladm in order to use wireless connection, wificonfig is the old
method (imho is deprecated).

One thing more, the wireless card is not in PCMCIA bus, is MiniPCI and its
standard (but IBM manufacturated, other cards doesnot work, such a Atheros
without IBM logo)

Cheers!
