latex2html: Problem with compressed files

In l2hb6 (and earlier versions)

    \includegraphics[width=1in]{ps/big-file.eps.gz}

causes image generation to fail (file not found
ps/big-file.eps.gz). The problem goes away if I make a link to the ps
directory in the directory where l2h puts html files. If the file
isn't compressed there's no problem.
