Hi,
I'm sorry for the false alarm. The problems was an error in my
environment; I had vales set for LATEX2HTMLCONFIG, LATEX2HTMLDIR, and
ICONSERVER [the first two should not make any difference; they are
left over from an experiment I was conducting a while back with the
program to set the default location of the library files t a test
location].
Unsetting these three variables makes everything work as
advertized.
I apologize for wasting everyones time. I think we can lay
this one to rest. For what it matters, I was using a compatible
version of netpbm, and not all images were affected, (Using Linux on
an i386).
