I've done that to approx 90%, but I need to merge the changes. See below.

Agree. I'll merge the multi-platform & configure stuff with the official
99.1, creating a 99.2. When do you think 99.1 will be released?

Yes. I already looked at the TeXlive directory structure etc.  We'll have
to think about how to do the icon stuff, but as far as the multiple
platfoms are concerned, I believe that my changes will make the inclusion
on the TeXlive CDROM quite simple.
