It is so, Doc, but it is not so benign. Journalists still defend their
crucifixion of Gary Hart. They like to say it was because of his challenge
but the reality is that Hart was an outsider and an open target. Before
Donna Rice Hart was plagued with questions about his incredible gall in
shortening his name and changing his age by one year as if these were
matters of great consequence. His opponents personal lives and foibles were
lightly passed over. Hart's dogged pursuit of conquests was far less
nauseating than Clinton's or many others. He pursued his targets by
showering flowers, gifts and attention on them. He did not grab them by
their breasts or crotch on meeting them and ask for sexual favors.
The hypocrisy of journalists actually exceeds that of politicians.
