Perhaps Marco, Mattias, Swen or Florian can describe the "usual" hostel somewhat more. I don't know it really, but as at least Mattias has been there 2006 and 2005, it should be okay.
Some facts:
- the part of the city (Neuhausen) is one of the most expensive ones in Munich, its quite 'quiet' (noise, crime...) in this area.
- there are many bars and restaurants
- it takes ~3 minutes to the next subway station, you can directly reach the fairground with the special fair subway line in about 30 minutes. There is no hostel with smaller distance to the fairground.
