The server is now Mac OS X 10.6.3. rsync is either 3.0.6 or 3.0.7, I can't remember which.
The compilation was made following the instructions on : http://www.bombich.com/mactips/rsync.html Where it is rsync 3.0.7 the version numbers were just substituted. I am at a bit of a loss as to why this had suddenly happened as the servers backups were functioning fine. I think I will deploy the alpha release and stop backing up the ACLs. The ACLs aren't important at any rate and if it will solve this problem then it will make my life considerable easier. Thanks for your help.
