This is very interesting. I was not aware of this. I have not tested LBackup in 
this configuration and I am not aware of anyone else who has it setup in this 
way. I would be interested to know if this will work. 

I understand there is an issue relating to symbolic links. However, it would be 
interesting to know if you have success when the the source has no symbolic 
links symbolic links.

Please let me know how you get on. Again, this is not a tested or supported 
configuration. As such, please test the backup if it completes carefully.

One possibility if you are attempting to push to a network share point like 
this would be to use a virtual file system (mounted locally) but data actually 
residing on the remote share.
